Our policy will ensure that biomass consumed in our facilities is environmentally sustainable. Beginning with project design and plant construction, through ongoing plant operations, including our fuel procurement practices, our business will adhere to this policy.
Our goals are to:
• Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared with heating oil and other fossil fuels.
• Minimize the release of carbon from forests linked to our procurement efforts.
• Give preference to biomass production that strengthens biodiversity.
• Employ best known methods (BKM) to protect soil, water and air quality.
• Buy locally to infuse dollars into the immediate fuel procurement area.
• Regularly review these principles to anticipate, meet and lead sustainability policy with regard to our facilities.
• Ensure our suppliers comply with these principles.
• Partner with local and state government to share our experiences, learn, and help shape policy that will promote sustainable biomass utilization in Vermont.
